Śāstra · the texts themselves
Where the rules come from.
Every calculation on this site descends from these treatises. They are here in full — Sanskrit, verse by verse, chapter by chapter, exactly as the tradition wrote them. Open one and read it plainly, or turn on the illuminated edition for translation and commentary alongside.
Commentary · read by a scholar
And how one reader worked through them.
A treatise states the rule; a commentary shows someone thinking it through. These are named scholars, dated and attributed — their reading of the text, not the text itself.
Public-domain editions only — the classical Sanskrit works from the GRETIL scholarly archive, and pre-1931 translations from the Internet Archive. Modern translations and commentaries remain in copyright and are deliberately not reproduced here.
